So lets begin
What is ATS
You must have heard too many jargons. But this one is simple and straightforward. It is a screening robot/ software that is used by employers during the hiring process to collect, sort, scan, and rank the job applications they receive for their open positions.
It is used to find the most qualified candidates for a role and remove resumes that do not meet the criteria.
Which means that each of our resume has to pass through the ATS system or software before appearing to human recruiter.
ATS is the databank of a company and works for a given criteria by scanning your submitted resume and cover letter to find keywords that match the job posting. The ATS highlights and ranks the jobs applications in terms to be a good match for the role.
We know that modern technology has replaced the age old process in many industries. Its due to the speed, ease, cost, precision of work & time saving. Instead of sorting through a stack of paper resumes or crowded email inbox, recruiters use ATS to keep themselves organized and efficient.
TIPS TO PASS THE ATS SCREENING
While creating an ATS friendly resume we have to keep in mind that we are creating resume for 2 types of audience

So here are the tips:
1. Select the correct file type for your resume Rather than creating multiple formats have a simple word doc in .doc or .docx format. Many ATS are not compatible with PDF.
2. Don't put important details in the header or footer
A study has confirmed the ATS was unable to identify a portion of resume 25 percent of the time. Avoid this by placing important contact details (such as your name, phone number, or email address) outside the header or footer of your resume.
3. Optimize your resume with keywords
The most important tip of all is to Optimze your resume with keywords. By Keywords I mean is your soft skills and hard skills you possess and the expertise you've acquired over the years that qualify you for your target job. Like developer, Designer, Tester and not marketing terms like Out of box thinker, Go getter, Team player etc.
If you want to identify the skills required for your positon then, start by collecting three to five job descriptions that represent the type of position you're pursuing. Then, copy and paste the job description into a word file now visit www.Online-Utility.org and go to the Text Analyzer to identify the terms that are regularly used throughout your desired positions. If you possess these skills or qualifications, incorporate these terms into your resume.
Apart from the keywords in resume some applicant tracking systems will determine the strength of your skills based on the number of times a Keyword appears
4.Avoid images, charts, and other graphics
For instance, if you insert an image or chart to showcase your key skills, the ATS will be unable to read it. If you use a cool graphic to brand your name on your resume, this piece of information will be lost on the applicant tracking system
5.Stick to simple bullet points symbol
Stick to the simplest options, such as a solid circle, open circle, or square, to ensure your bullet points enhance your resume, rather than make it incompatible with an ATS.
6.Use a clean resume design with a clear hierarchy
If you want your resume to successfully pass the ATS, stick to a standard resume format, such as a hybrid resume. This resume format uses a professional summary section at the top of the document to outline your key skills and qualifications, and combines it with a chronological “Work History”.
Most applicant tracking systems do a better job at reading and interpreting a hybrid format because they rely on chronological data to parse your resume.
7.Include a skills section Separately on your resume.
8.Write out acronyms for example if you done MBA then along with it mention Masters of business administration.
9.Submit a tailored resume for each job.
10.Use a basic formatting through out your resume.

How to run an ATS-resume test for compliance
There are two easy ways to determine if your resume is compatible with an applicant tracking system (ATS).
Copy the content from your resume, paste it into a plain-text document/ word doc., and review the results. If the plain-text version is missing details from your original resume, has characters saved incorrectly, or looks disorganized (i.e. the heading for your “Work Experience” section appears in the middle of your Personal Information), then assume your resume will require editing before it will be ATS compliant.
Request a free ATS scan for your resume
Just visit my blog, link given in the description box, where you can find the resource for Free ATS resume review. When you request a free resume review from this link, you'll receive feedback on your resume's content, as well as its ATS compatibility.
This report gives you an elaborate review on where your resume is doing well and where it is falling short, from both an information and design perspective. This report also shows what information an ATS will pull from your resume & what information it will be unable to identify and retrieve.
